Gus Russelman: Professional Gamer
As many of you know I’ve been working in the entertainment industry as of late, mainly in the area of webseries/webtv. Aside from my show Melts In Your Pocket I decided I wanted to contribute to the over all community that I am a part of.
I can talk the talk and have loved getting to know so many other talented people who have created/produced series. People I look up to and admire. Now it’s time to walk the walk. Can I produce something that is on par of what my peers are doing and gather an audience that likes my work?
I am proud to announce that I am in the midst of shooting a pilot for a webseries called Gus Russelman: Professional Gamer or Gus Rus for short. Along with my co-creator/co-producer Jared Hoy we have a 12 episode story arch that I am writing and he is directing that we hope to get full sponsorship to make a complete season of this show.
We describe the show as:
Talladega Nights meets Dodgeball meets The Wizard. It’s a story about a sure fire, cocky young gamer making his way up the ranks, and the fictional cable station that covers gaming.
It’s been fun to put on my writing hat and give an entire season’s worth of a webseries a try. I have so much more respect for writers. Coming up with an idea is one thing. Fleshing it out into an entire season is completely another.
Then there’s the whole production side. Being a producer is hard work. Managing details and schedules and conflict resolution. Let me just say anyone who says producers never do any work can go suck on a lemon. It’s hard. Trust me. I’ll give you some of my work to do.
The over arching thing is that I’m doing something on my own. I’m taking a risk and putting myself out there as a creator. Which takes some balls. I’ve seen a lot of good looking and well produced shows and I’ve seen a lot of really crappy and poorly produced shows.
Anyone can make a webseries. Making a good webseries is what separates the wheat from the chaff.
I’m sure I’ll be writing more about this and will have something to show you before long. But I wanted to make sure you knew what I was up to this week.
A special thank you goes out to all of our fans, who have yet to see a frame of footage and have already donated money to make this happen. And to the cast and crew for volunteering their time and talent to make this happen. I hope we find a sponor soon so we can pay our cast and crew for their amazing work and time.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you’re extra good I might post the script for episode 1 sooner or later.
