Pomplamoose

I know I’ve mentioned Pomplamoose on twitter before, but I don’t know if I’ve talked about them here on the blog.

These two take the idea of covers and remixes and turns them on their heads.  Read on to find out what all that means.

Pomplamoose is made up of Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn.  While they haven’t really gone on record as saying that they are dating or in a relationship, all you have to do is notice the way Jack often stares at Nataly during their vlogs to instantly know one way or another there is a deep connection between the two that highly influences their music.

In addition to their clear musical style that often finds them covering well known tunes, they have been at the forefront of what is called WYHIWYS (what you hear is what you see) a music video style where their multiple tracks are always shown at one point or another.

Personally I’m a total fan of their music.  Though I must admit it’s an acquired taste.  But to me the video editing and creativity that oozes out of these two continue to astound me.

In their own right they have leveraged YouTube and iTunes into a full time career making music, devoid of record labels and live shows.

And as of recent even caught the eye of the marketing department of Hyundai who allowed them the creative freedom to concept to completion of their own commercial for the car company.  You can see the holiday themed commercials now.

The other night they made a surprise announcement via twitter and showed up on ustream a livestreaming video service from an iPhone and played a 3 song acoustic set from their hotel room.  You can see the video below.

To me it’s always cool to see people out there doing really great things and see them succeed at it.  Without the backing of big corporations and brands, and make it on their own.  Aside from the recent commercial deal, they have largely been creating and marketing and interacting with fans by themselves.

Even if you don’t like their music you have to give them credit for creating a brand for themselves and being able to be successful at it.

Check them out below or over at their youtube channel.
